چکیده
Studies of core toroidal rotation reversal phenomenology in C-Mod deuterium L-mode plasmas have been expanded to include details the dependences on plasma current and magnetic field. Rotation occurs at a critical density, universal scaling indicates that product ncritq95R ∼ BT/2, with ncrit 1020/m3, R m, BT T. Measurements H He exhibit similar behavior, including connection linear Ohmic confinement/saturated confinement transition cutoff for non-diffusive heat transport. Electron density ion cyclotron range frequencies power modulation experiments suggest collisionality ν* is unifying parameter. Strong impurity puffing causes increase, indicating situation more complicated than only collisionality, perhaps involving effects dilution temperature gradient mode stability.

Impurity toroidal rotation and transport in Alcator C-Mod ohmic h-mode plasmas
Central toroidal rotation and impurity transport coe cients have been determined in Alcator C-Mod Ohmic High Con nement Mode (H-mode) plasmas from observations of x-ray emission following impurity injection. Rotation velocities up to 3 10 m/s in the co-current direction have been observed in the center of the best Ohmic H-mode plasmas. Purely Ohmic H-mode plasmas display many characteristics si...
متن کاملRotation reversal bifurcation and energy confinement saturation in tokamak Ohmic L-mode plasmas.
Direction reversals of intrinsic toroidal rotation have been observed in diverted Alcator C-Mod Ohmic L-mode plasmas following electron density ramps. For low density discharges, the core rotation is directed cocurrent, and reverses to countercurrent following an increase in the density above a certain threshold. Such reversals occur together with a decrease in density fluctuations with 2 cm(-1...
متن کاملH-mode edge stability of Alcator C-mod plasmas
For steady state H-mode operation, a relaxation mechanism is required to limit build-up of the edge gradient and impurity content. C-Mod sees two such mechanisms-EDA and grassy ELMs, but not large type I ELMs. In EDA the edge relaxation is provided by an edge localized quasicoherent electromagnetic mode that exists at moderate pedestal temperature T< 400 eV, high pedestal density and high edge ...
متن کاملNon-local heat transport in Alcator C-Mod ohmic L-mode plasmas
Non-local heat transport experiments were performed in Alcator C-Mod Ohmic L-mode plasmas by inducing edge cooling with laser blow-off impurity (CaF2) injection. The non-local effect, a cooling of the edge electron temperature with a rapid rise of the central electron temperature, which contradicts the assumption of “local” transport, was observed in low collisionality linear Ohmic confinement ...
متن کاملObservations of Toroidal Rotation Suppression with ITB Formation in ICRF and Ohmic H-mode Alcator C-Mod Plasmas
Co-current central toroidal rotation has been observed in Alcator C-Mod plasmas with on-axis ICRF heating. The rotation velocity increases with plasma stored energy and decreases with plasma current. Very similar behavior has been seen during Ohmic H-modes, which suggests that the rotation, generated in the absence of an external momentum source, is not principally an ICRF effect. A scan of the...
